In Egyptian mythology, what is the name of the underworld or kingdom of the dead?
Answer
Duat
Duat is the Egyptian underworld, a dangerous realm the soul must navigate after death to reach the eternal afterlife. The journey through Duat tests the soul's knowledge of sacred spells and passwords necessary to overcome guardians and obstacles. The Book of the Dead provided spells and maps to help souls navigate Duat's perils and reach Aaru (the Field of Reeds). Duat was envisioned as a mirror of the living world, complex and full of hidden dangers.
