In 1947, a young Bedouin shepherd named Muhammad edh-Dhib accidentally discovered the first Dead Sea Scrolls in a cave near Qumran. The scrolls include the oldest known copies of nearly every book of the Hebrew Bible, dating from approximately 300 BCE to 70 CE.
